Abortion in NY, Why Racism is Sin, & Global Persecution Report
January 26, 2019
The Weekly Review is a regular update of what I’ve been reading in the news and various blogs around the web. It’s a recap of what has been going on in our world over the past week along with commentary from various sources.
When People Cheer Abortion, Russell Moore. Many were alarmed and dispirited by footage this week of raucous cheering in the New York State Senate chamber. The “Happy Days Are Here Again” sort of celebration wasn’t for a bill to guarantee health care or repair roads or to reform the government. The applause and laughter was instead for a bill to remove any protections as persons from unborn children at any stage of pregnancy. While this video does indeed tell us much about the culture in which we live right now I actually think another piece of footage tells us more.
10 Reasons Racism is Sin, Kevin DeYoung. Most people know that racism is wrong. It’s one of the few things almost everyone agrees on. And yet, I wonder if we have spent much time considering why it’s wrong.
A Church Not Forsaken, John MacArthur. Christ’s departure from this planet was not a departure from His church. He promised His disciples before He ascended to heaven, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). And in spite of the scandal, compromise corruption, and rebellion that often threatens to overrun the church, Christ’s promise still stands. No matter how dire the situation might appear, Christ has not abandoned His church.
The Countries Where It’s Most Dangerous to Be a Christian in 2019, Joe Carter. One in every nine Christians in the world lives in an area, or in a culture, in which Christianity is illegal, forbidden, or punished, according to the latest report on global persecution by Open Doors USA. That’s a 14 percent increase over the previous year.
