Faith is confident trust in God that is demonstrated through asking in prayer. Asking God for what is on our heart is the way we exercise faith. I’ve heard it said that prayer is faith’s reflex. Unbelief is the root of all our problems in life. We have not because we ask not, and we ask not because we believe not. We believe not because our minds fail to fathom the greatness of our Father. The disciples were astonished that the fig tree Jesus had cursed was withered in such a short period of time. It was an object lesson for them. There is a rich promise for prayer contained in Mark 11:24. Notice that Jesus doesn’t say we are to believe that we will receive, but that we have already received. Faith is confidence in the future as if it were already present!
Our Father is not reluctant to give, but delights in giving good gifts to His children. We need to understand His character if we are to confidently ask in faith. What are you asking Him for, and what are You trusting Him to do?
Father, thank You for being the God who hears and answers prayer. You delight in giving gifts to those who ask, and asking builds my faith. Instead of worrying about things beyond my control, help me trust You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
