2 Kings 6:16-17
In 2 Kings 6, the Bible says that the king of Syria was waging war against Israel. Despite the king’s superior forces, the prophet Elisha had access to divine intelligence! The king of Syria couldn’t make the slightest plan without Elisha relaying it in detail to the king of Israel. The Syrian king became so enraged that he sent horses, chariots, and a vast army to capture the prophet Elisha in a little town called ‘Dothan.’ When the servant of Elisha saw the enemy forces, he cried out, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” But Elisha wasn’t worried because he saw through the eyes of faith. He said, “Those who are for us are more than those who are with them.” He then prayed and asked the Lord to open his servant’s eyes so he could see.
Not long ago, I looked up into the sky at dusk and happened to notice one lone star while the rest of the sky appeared to be empty. A few minutes later, I looked up again and noticed that the sky had gotten a little bit darker, and I could see a couple of stars. A few minutes later, I looked again and saw even more stars. By the time it was completely dark, there were more stars in the sky than I could count. Obviously, all of those stars were already in place when I looked up at the sky the first time. I just couldn’t see them.
God has already given you everything you need to fight and win the spiritual battles of life. It is already in your possession! When you placed your faith in Jesus Christ, you received the Holy Spirit in full measure. All that is Christ’s is now yours. You were given access to the throne. All of heaven’s resources are now at your disposal! But seeing and realizing this practically is another story. Sometimes, things have to get darker for us to recognize God’s hand. God does some of His very best work in the dark. We need to look through the eyes of faith in order to clearly see when it is dark.
