A Scoop Away From Empty

What happens when you reach the end of what you have?

In 1 Kings 17, Elijah meets a widow who is literally one scoop away from empty. With only a handful of flour and a little oil remaining, she has no reserves, no backup plan, and no hope for tomorrow. Yet at the bottom of her barrel, she discovers the faithfulness and sufficiency of God.

Her story teaches us three truths about God's provision: the means is often strange, the measure is always sufficient, and the miracle is never suspect. What looks inadequate in our hands is never inadequate in the hands of God.

Day after day, the widow returned to a barrel that should have been empty—and day after day, there was enough. The barrel didn't necessarily overflow, but it never ran dry. God was teaching her to trust Him for today.

Maybe you know what it feels like to be a scoop away from empty—financially, emotionally, relationally, physically, or spiritually. The promise isn't that your barrel will always be full. It's that God will always be faithful. When we reach the end of our resources, we discover that we will never reach the end of His.

And God's greatest provision isn't found in a barrel of flour or a jar of oil. It's found in Jesus Christ, who gives forgiveness, righteousness, hope, and eternal life to everyone who trusts in Him.
