The Hebrew word ‘end’ is used at least 10 times in the last two chapters of the book of Daniel.  Daniel is being shown what will happen at the time of the end.  The final chapter of Daniel concerns the time of the end, or the end of human history as we know it.  History is linear, which means it has a beginning and an end.  Time is not at a stand still, but is moving toward something.  Just as the rivers make their way to the ocean, so also is the steady stream of time moving history toward a future in which the kingdom of this world becomes the kingdom of Jesus Christ.  And this is the overarching message of Daniel 12, which is all about God’s promise of everlasting life for His weary people.  No matter how bad things may get, the people of God are to live with the hope of His promise.
